The Day the Music Died - A Poem
by A.L. Foster

The end was here
he couldn't fight anymore.
His mind was sharp
lucid
until the end
though his pain had been erased
by morphine.
Even then,
his body failing,
he hung on,
only taking his leave
after knowing
his two treasures-
his devotions and vocations in life
were no longer there.
His last breath
drawing out
like the final note
from a violin
saying goodbye
to the audience
for whom it had performed.

Rest in peace dear Baba.

  1. This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it. He had always said he wanted to keep playing that violin until the very end. It's comforting to know that's what he did.
